double blind

The speed dating guy blew me off and we never rescheduled a first date. But a dear friend of mine coordinated a double, blind date for me and another mutual friend of ours with two guys (a British analyst and a Texan IT engineer) both from Sili valley. I've been on blind dates before especially through online sites. But never in a group setting.

To recap last Sat, we all met at Thirsty Bear in the city for what initially would be drinks with the option to have dinner there also. Or so I thought. My friend, who isn't "dating aware", thought that our selection of tapas and beer wasn't dinner but a pre-snack before dinner. We left the restaurant and she makes an announcement that she's hungry for a real meal. The looks on the faces of our dates almost made me burst out laughing but I was just as shocked speechless. Did I miss something?

It was 8:05pm on a Sat night. Much too early to call it a night. So, we headed to Chinatown to scout out a restaurant for my friend. Thankfully, we decided on a cafe in North Beach for coffee/tea. Another hour of the usual, get-to-know-your-date, and I was still itching to go elsewhere. Time was 10pm. My friend, on the other hand, was tired and she wanted to end the night. So, my friend and I had to part since I was her ride home.

A couple things I noticed about myself: When I'm nervous, I give out too much information and I interrupt conversations. I giggle a lot. I tease and joke around when I probably shouldn't.

A few things I noticed about the guys. They are perfect gentlemen; a little geeky but nice. It was refreshing to have intelligent conversations with people who aren't all about discussing personal relationships, drinking and bars/clubs.

Would I want to go on another date? Yes, with the engineer since I felt a better personality match with him. But there wasn't any instant, chemistry spark with either of them. I do have to admit that the engineer's cute. My friend thought the same and he seemed to have paid more attention to her than me so I guess I'm out. Unless, they pre-planned who they would spend more time getting to know during the course of the evening. Who knows.

Just heard back from the analyst. Got a thanks for the evening but no second go.
