I'm not asking for attention

But attention I receive. It's nice to receive attention from members of the opposite sex but at the same time, I don't need the extra drama in my life.

For example, my friend, Jerry, who invited me to his 70-80s bar hopping party, apparently desperately wanted me to attend. I didn't. Couldn't make it out there from the city since I had a family function going on around the same time. So, Jerry's not too happy about it. He's probably just giving me a hard time but to tell me that his crush he has on me has ended? Whatever. I try to be friendly and act like a friend and I get this.

Second example. My painting contractor, Chris, who incidently seems to have similar personality traits as the last Chris, has been making it a point to call me for one reason or another and then we talk about everything but the painting. Not that I don't mind. It's obvious that he's interested in me and I in him. But it's just odd and borders on unprofessional considering that I hired him to paint my house. I suppose since the job is nearing completion, it's no harm, no foul on his part to just chat with a customer after usual work hours. Just weird and amusing, also.
