I am not surprised that these people exist and believe that they are good dog owners. Sure, they provide all the necessities for a fairly content doggy life but these owners still manage to allow the "stupid" gene to surface.
I took my dogs for our usual evening stroll around the neighborhood. Same time, same distance, same route. We headed up Maureen St. with a couple houses to go before we made a left on Lucille. As we are walking, I noticed a loose 90+ pound dog, likely a rottweiler mix, charging down the street toward us. I tightened my grip around the leashes and pull my kids to the opposite side of the road.
A vehicle driven by an oblivious, 20-something nearly side swipes the rottweiler mix before slowing down at the stop sign. The driver shouted something to me about getting the dog and I try to flick the guy off. Is he blind? I've got two leashed dogs on my hands. Unless I'm a dog walker by night, why would I have a third dog and no extra leash?
At this point, I'm tugging my 90lb shepherd, who's hair is standing on end, away from the mix, while my foster pup is giving off low growls and jumping at my feet looking for a fight. I can just see how this can escalate into an uncontrollable incident.
I barely hear the owner calling "Coco, Coco, come" from the corner house a 100yds away. Is Coco going to his owner? No. Rather than get her dog, she stands in her entry way and continues to call "Coco" a dozen more times. Is this working? No. I have a rule about this. If a person calls their dog and it doesn't come within two seconds, go and get the dog because the months of expensive dog training obviously isn't working here.
I yelled back for her to get her pooch before it gets hit by a car. And on cue, a pickup truck barrels down the street. This was going to be exciting.
She finally leaves the comfort of her home and walks out to the street to get Coco. But her pet will have none of it. Coco runs away from her into the path of the truck. This woman, who's slower than molasses, gasps "oh, my" and puts her hands to her face. Is that the reaction you would have when your pet almost gets hit by a vehicle? She didn't even make a move to grab her dog or call out to the truck driver to stop. Nothing. I feel sorry that Coco has to live with this idiot of a human being. I'm surprised Coco's not dead yet from some foreseeble accident because his owner does not have the wherewithal to act quickly. Coco and his owner are very luck I yelled at the driver to stop. The dumb woman didn't even thank me.

I have to admit that as far as ramblings go, yours are pretty interesting.
A few years ago I decided to go for a walk through a local park where dogs were allowed as long as they were with their owners and on a leash. There was no one around and suddenly this massive 4ft tall dog starts charging towards me. When it was a couple feet away from me, the owner suddenly comes into view about 50ft away and decides to stand still while shouting at the dog to come back. The dog, not too surprisingly didn't understand and kept running right to me. I was about to crap in my pants when the dog started jumping on me. Oooh man, and after the owner got it to come halfway back to him, the dog had second thoughts and charged me again. LOL it was miserably hillarious. Does that fit under the "another asinine dog owner" category? Sort of?
Absolutely, Amir. Sometimes, I wonder how dog owners could be so nonchalant about their dog's actions toward strangers. They must believe that if their dog is friendly to them, the dog is friendly to everyone. I just don't see the logic.
